Talanta Hela Boys team have won the Costa Daurada Cup after beating Usurbil of Spain 3-0 in the U19 final at the Futbol Salou Stadium, Taragona. On the other hand the Girls team finished first runners up after they lost 2-0 in the finals against Sporting de Portugal. The well assembled group of boys and girls won a clutch of individual honors after a display of exemplary performance throughout the tournament.
While the girls team lost 2-0 in the final against Sporting de Portugal, they also did not leave the tourney empty handed. Elizabeth Mideva was the Topscorer in the tournament in Barcelona Spain. She scored 5 Goals for Talanta hela U19 Girls.The forward is a student at Archbishop Njenga Girls and is part of Harambee Starlets U20 Team.Talanta Hela Under 19 Girls Goalkeeper Christine Adhiambo was awarded the Golden Glove at the Costa Daurada Cup in Spain for conceding the least number of goals in the tournament(4). The 17 year old Butere girls high school prodigy has already featured for the National Under 20 football team Rising Starlets. She won the KSSSA National Games with Butere Girls and the Talanta Hela National Championship with Busia county in 2023.
Austine Odongo alias ‘Musa’ who is a student at Ebwali Secondary School won the golden boot at the Costa Daurada Cup in Spain.In 2023 he was voted the Most Valuable Player Talanta Hela U19 Nationals tournament after he scored 9 goals and was it’s joint top scorer.In the same year he was the second best striker in the Cleo Malala Super Cup season tournament after scoring 8 goals falling short to KCB FC forward Shadrack Simiyu. In 2022 he was also the top scorer in the Kenya Secondary School Games Nationals with 13 goals for Ebwali . Again in 2023 he was the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Overral Top scorer .This ranks among the stats everyone will want for his kind of striker.
It has been a great journey for the young boys and girls. For many it is a dream come true and it is building up even more to their soccer career dreams since every aspiring footballer dream of playing it abroad. They were assembled from county levels and these two teams served as the country’s cream and their performance in the tournament have proved the same since to many this was their first trip outside the country and how they could adapt in and pose such great results is a good thing to go by. We hope they will keep being nurtured so that we can keep their history to even greater scales.
