Harambee Starlets International striker, Esse Akida, in high spirits as she lifts the Greece Women’s Premier League Championship with AC PAOK. This means she has secured yet another season in the Women Champions League.
Speaking to SoccerPower99 here are some of her sentiments towards how her season has been. ” Winning the championship means the league has been good. There have been a few challenges, but enjoyed everything this season.” stated Esse. This of course speaks about the challenges of working way away from home, adapting to a new environment and culture but to Akida a determined player she overcame all this and with the support and teamwork from her team mates they made it to history and achievement.
”The dream of every player in a league is to win the title and we achieved that. I haven’t been through so many challenges compared to the other seasons because I have adapted here well. I am getting used to their culture and I think this season has been even better.” She added when we asked her about her high moments in the league since despite the challenges one faces we will always never lack the moments we sing along to and enjoy as we go through the journey. Akida played in the Women Champions League a tournament that is so prestigious to every football player and this must have a good feeling in itself. She adds on that the low moment came in when they were eliminated earlier in the Champions league. Which they would have really wanted to proceed further in the competition but failed to.

”The Greek women’s league has improved since I first came here. We are still the strongest team but everyone comes to games with the mentality of winning against us. But then the other teams have improved too and we no longer beat teams with higher margins as we used to sometimes back.” This is what Akida shared when asked about the league itself and literally this speaks well about the growth of the league.
In her last remarks especially towards her advice to the upcoming players here is what she had to share, ”There is no shortcut in football. I know I have said this a lot but they should keep working hard. I know the situation back at home isn’t good because of how they treat women football, but I believe when one is talented, its only a matter of time before they soar. I believe we have the talent to make inroads in other leagues and mine is to always represent my country well to showcase what we are capable of. I know doors will open for them so they should just keep working.”
